Dishema Shuler, MSW, LCSW

Dishema

Dishema Shuler received a Master of Social Work Degree from Simmons College in 2009 and a Bachelor of Social Work from Bennet College in 2007. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) through the North Carolina Social Work Certification and Licensure Board (NCSWCLB). Dishema is also rostered as a Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapist (TF-CBT), and a member of the Social Work Accreditation Board, as well as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.

Dishema has experience providing counseling services to individuals, children, families, and couples in both collegiate and private practice settings. She focuses on blended family issues, school difficulties, parent-child conflict, depression, anxiety, and trauma related issues. Dishema has studied Evidence Based Practices with concentration on anger management training, techniques in behavior modification, and parental/family support. Therapeutic approach includes Cognitive behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Structured family Therapy.

Dishema has a diverse working background, which helps her educate and advocate for the families she serves. She supports children with Individualized Educational Plans (IEP’s) and assists parents with becoming better advocates for their own children. Aside from Professional development, Dishema speaks on clinical panels with a team of Medical Professionals regarding the importance of maintaining mental and physical health. She has unique qualities that allow her to be authentic and relatable to a diverse population. Dishema truly believes in the teaching that says, “You cannot teach what you do not know, and you cannot lead where you don’t go”. Healing has its levels and it’s an ongoing journey, but together, we can achieve our self-care goals.
